Graduation Cake

If you are looking for some great tasting chocolate cake recipes, try this one:

Ingredients

1 2/3 cup flour
1 ½ cup sugar
¾ cup cocoa
1 ½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 ½ cups buttermilk
½ cup shortening
2 large eggs or 3 small eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla

Directions:

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour cake pan a 25 X 25 cm.

Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk.
Add beaten eggs, vanilla and shortening.
Mix flour, sugar and cocoa together in a bowl.
Add to wet ingredients an beat well. Either 3 minutes on high speed with a mixer or 500 strokes without.
Pour cake batter into pans and bake for 35 to 40 minutes until a cake tester or wooden toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool.

Hint: If you do not have buttermilk on hand, you can use ¼ cup vinegar mixed with 1 ¼ cup milk and it will work just as well.

For the decorating I use marzipan and chocolate.
