Cake Settling Issues

by Lori
(Michigan)

I have had problems with cakes settling - I have seen my buttercream cakes start to "bubble" towards the bottom, and I have seen my fondant-covered cakes start looking "wrinkled" because they are settling. What is causing this and what can I do to avoid it?

Icing bubbles/ settling
by: Anonymous

I find that if a cake is too warm OR too cold it can develop bubbles. Humidity also increases chances.
If I have one that bubbles I put a straw in and let it sit a bit (releasing air). Then lightly pat with a paper towel to close hole. Should fix the problem.

Not a fondant expert. Sorry.

I hope there is not too much humidity @ your house or that your house is not too hot, if it is turn the AC as cold as possible. Good Luck!
