Corsa Bakkie - 2008 Model Cake
This cake was made for a friend on his 40th birthday when his wife gave him a Opel corsa bakkie! It is made with a chocolate (11")square cake shaped to the required size and shape and then covered in sugar paste.
When shaping a 3d cake, you must always remember that your basic outline must take the shape of what you intend to do. Make sure that all the features that has to stand out to make it realistic is actually there, even if it means you have to place extra sugar paste or cake there prior to finishing it off.
In this case I had first covered the cake with a very runny sort of butter cream, which I call my crumb base, this is to ensure that all the loose crumbs is first firmly attach to my model and then a nice generous layer of butter cream which I then leave to dry slightly before I cover it in sugar paste. The detail is then added on last.
