Edible Gold or Silver Balls

What are the gold or silver balls made from and how time consuming are they? I have a bride wanting them on her cake and I am doing this as a favor for her. Please tell me, it won't take me a week just to make them HAHA. I don't have the picture of the cake she saw right now, but should have it in a day or two.

Gold Dragees illegal in California

I don't know how you make them, but you can order them from England. Look online. There is a Wiki article on dragees and it references an L.A. Times lawsuit that details how they got banned from California. They are not considered edible by the USDA, and must include a warning, but people didn't know about the warning and popped them in anyway.

I think you can still buy them in other states, but I am not sure.

Gold pearls

Hey, Im doing a 3 inch deep 3 tier wedding cake today! 12 inch, 10 inch and 8 inch. I made the balls or pearls out of gum paste and dusted Wiltons gold pearl dust over them in a container to coat them all! Some people paint them but that's way to time consuming! I hear you can also put gold dust into some realy thin icing and pipe the balls onto partchment ppaper, wait till they dry then apply them to the cake. Avoids you having to hand roll them! You should get the Wiltons book! It's a really good guide!
