First Birthday Cake - Party Hat and Smiling Face

The cupcakes and party hat for this first birthday cake were vanilla and the smiling face was chocolate. All of the cakes were made from scratch. When I was approached to create the 1st birthday cake, my only concern was the customer wanted the cupcakes to have whipped cream frosting. I had never made whipped cream frosting before and I was concerned it wouldn't hold up. Low and behold the whipped cream frosting held up well.

I baked a 10 x 3 chocolate cake for the smiling face and frosted with chocolate buttercream. The party hat, I baked a vanilla cake in 9 x 13 pan. I cut the party hat into the triangle design and curved it at the bottom to fit snugged with the round cake and frosted in green buttercream.

I piped in different colored round design as well as the smily face. I started the whole process around 8:30 p.m and did not finished including cleaning the kitchen until 5:00 a.m.

The kids devoured the cupcakes as well as the adults. It was a big, big hit amongst them all.
