What should I use to make bowling pins for a bowling cake... fondant or gum paste?

I would use gum paste as well... but work fast! It starts drying immediately and will crack if you handle it too much once it's started drying.

I used plastic toy bowling pins on mine....

Gum paste. You can do it earlier and leave it to dry.
