Gold glittery decorations on wedding cake.

by Cyndie

I have a rather successful home business and recently have had several brides ask about gold designs on their wedding cakes. They do not want the whole cake iced gold, but just the scrollwork or leaves and vines. I have tried mixing luster dust of assorted colors of gold and that doesn't work. I've tried mixing the luster dust with vodka and painting it on - very labor intensive, and it looked awful!! Is there anything out there that is Non-toxic that will achieve the results we see in the magazines? Help!

Gold glittery decorations on wedding cake

I'm assuming that the cake is covered with fondant. if so, what I do is to brush on (lightly) shortening on the cake. You can then use a pastry brush to apply the glitter. You have to be careful so that you dont have the glitter concentrated about the cake. I suggest you dabt the cake first and then spread with the brush. I hope this helps.
