Sydney's 8th Birthday Cake
I made this guitar here (wii) birthday cake for my 8-year-old daughter Sydney, who loves Guitar Hero. I started by tracing the full-size guitar onto a piece of wax paper including every detail.
Next, I created all of the details for the guitar, which were made out of fondant.
Next, I made a large batch of rice crispy treats and cut out the shape of the full-size guitar. To complete the guitar, I covered it with black and white fondant and placed the details where they should be on the guitar.
For the cake itself, I used two 12X18" sheets placed side by side. The finished cake was about 3 feet long! I divided each cake into 2 layers and filled it with fresh strawberry filling. I then iced the cake as normal making sure to join the two cakes together.
It took about two full batches of Wilton's Snow White Buttercream recipe to complete including the borders, writing, and other decoration. After the cake was completely iced, I airbrushed it a shimmery pink.
The final steps were placing the guitar on top and writing the birthday message in black icing.
