Gymnastic Cake

This gymnastic cake is a three level cake with each different round cake placed on a tiered stand. One each level, I baked a 12, 10, and 8 inch cake.

Then I rolled fondant and created little gymnasts with a leo that matched my daughter's team leotards. I made the head and legs and tinted with skin colors, then a batch for the leo colors.

I attached the pieces together with toothpicks as needed. I have a girl on a balance beam made out of a long cardboard box covered with fondant, the legs were made out of hard plastic straws.

Next I made a set of uneven bars also out of the hard plastic straws. They were hot glued together and the glue covered with fondant for the appearance.

I put a little girl in the splits on the "floor", laying down was the easiest on beam, and a little fondant girl just about to mount the bars on the third level.
