I am new to cake decorating. What is a "crumb coat"? I am going to attempt it but the 4 1/2 hours for decorating it is intimidating and overwhelming. For the reasons you mentioned (look on daughters face) I will be doing it. Hope it comes out as good as this one looks.

That turned out so cute. I can imagine how excited she was to get that cake. It really makes you feel good to have your child so proud of you. I know it takes a long time to decorate sometimes, but it's so true, you get a lot of satisfation at the results and happiness of the kids or whomever you are making it for.
