Hearts and Butterflies 9th Birthday Cake

I made this hearts and butterflies birthday cake as a suprise for my Niece............I did love the Hannah Montanna Guitar cake on here wish I had the time to make that one!!!!

I made this with two 10" Vanilla sponges......Jam and buttercream filling of course!!!! Covered with baby pink fondant icing......large red hearts overlapping the over the top egde of the cake and one in the centre of the cake with a lilac number nine........all other lettering cut out in purple fondant icing and stuck down with a little buttercream as were the hearts!!!!! Made a couple of nights before were the lilac butterflies...........each with a cocktail stick in the middle so they would stand upright on the cake when dried........finished off with a butterfly designed painted onto each with a fine brush in red food colouring to pull all the colours together

Notice it was for a 9th birthday.......with nine hearts and 9 butterflies!!!!!! My niece was over the moon.........and as always worth all the hours of work!!
