How do I make a 16 for the top of my cake?

I am making a birthday cake for a friends Sweet Sixteen. I have seen many cakes topped with a cute number "16". I was wondering if someone could tell me how to do this...with rolled fondant, gumpaste,etc.. Also what do I attach it to that makes it stand upright?

Thanks for your help!!

numbers

I did numbers a while back.
I used mmfondant, shaped the way I wanted and just attached with a wee bit of water to my buttercream. Mine didn't stand up like Lena's do. And btw, Lena's look great.

This is the one I did with numbers.
The stars on this cake were done with gum paste and I used small skewers or floral wire. Have used both and can't remember which! They both work.

Standing 16

I will use modeling fondant. Roll out to 1/2 cm thick and use number cutter cut out 16. Fix a toothpick half way in between from the bottom of each number. By now you should get half of the toothpick sticking out. Let it dry.

This is how I do it. Happy decorating.
