How do I make edible cornstocks?

I am doing a barnyard bash for my 3 year olds birthday party...I am going to make a farm scene cake with edible fencing, hay, barn and silo...My dilema is I want to put "cornstocks" around the fencing and cannot come up with an idea for edible cornstocks short of using fondant...Does anyone have some ideas as to what i could use??? Thanks all help will be appreciated.

I've seen them done with icing but they were right on something, not free standing.

How about royal icing?
