How do you make icing that is not too sweet?

How do you make icing that is not too sweet? I can not eat cake that is too sweet. Lots of friends eat the cake and leave the icing. Please help!

To my basic buttercream recipe I add 4 to 8 oz of cream cheese. It makes the icing creamy without being too sweet or tasting like cheese. Hope this helps.

hi nancy for to sweet icing try using salt {salt cuts sugar sugar cuts salt ] start out a little at a time until you have the taste you want hope this helps jackie jml

I THINK MAYBE A CREAM FROSTING IS YOUR BEST BET FOR NOT A SWEET FROSTING. I KNOW THEY ARE ALL VERY SWEET. IF YOU CAN FIND OUT THE BAKERY CREAM THEY USE, IT WILL BE THE ONE YOU WANT. HOPE THAT HELPS YOU. GOOD LUCK, NANCY OF CA
