For my daughters 4th birthday we had a Mickey Mouse Club House party and I wanted to make her cake. I read some of the other ideas and thought I would try to build the clubhouse out of fondant, but knew it would take a lot of dye to get black and red the right shade.
I decided to mold the clubhouse from Crayola Modeling Clay! I purchased the colors I needed and built the clubhouse a few days before the party and then just placed in on top of the cake.
To save time, and since I don't have a pan large enough, I ordered a 1/2 sheet cake from the store and asked them to just ice it and spray it green with a red border. I used one side of the Wilton ball mold for the base and styrofoam for the head, ears, foot and hand.
I rolled out the modeling clay with the rolling pin and used it like fondant. Because I was using modeling clay my daughter was able to help, and now that the party is over we have a non-perishable Mickey Mouse Club house for in the play room!

Support for Clubhouse? by: Anonymous
So adorable! Did you have to use support sticks for the clubhouse? We have a plastic piggy bank about the size of the one you made here and I wondered if I needed to put in some sticks to support it on the 1/2 sheet cake.

Great Idea! by: Anonymous
I really like your idea abotu the model magic clay, instead of using fondant for the clubhouse part of the cake. I was wondering, how much of each color did you need to get? And what are the dimensions of your clubhouse? I would like to try this for my son's 3rd birthday. But wasn't sure how much modeling clay I would need for each color? Cost? Etc.? Thanks for your help!
