Paint on Cake

I'm trying to paint silver onto a cake but only have the silver dust....what do I mix with it?...I have been using alcohol but when it drys it just falls off and goes lumpy...do I use edible varnish?

I HEARD TO USE LEMON EX. AND NOT A WHOLE LOT OF IT. IT DID WORK ON MY PEARL LUSTER DUST AND GOLD..NANCY OF CA

you are better off to just use the dust by its self or you can add a little water that will work
