problem with sticky fondant icing

how can I prevent my fondant icing going sticky once on the cake. I put the icing on last night put it straight into an air tight container and this morning the icing was very sticky (luckily this was a practice run for a birthday)

Its probably the airtight container. It sounds like its causing condensation. This can also happen if you put fondant in the fridge.

Instead put it in a cardboard box or just leave it out if you don't have critters.
