Rice Krispie Elmo

I'm making a 3D Rice Krispie Elmo to sit on top of my son's 1st birthday cake. I'd like to make Elmo a week ahead of time. Would this be OK? I don't plan on eating Elmo--he's just for looks. I plan on piping red colored buttercream over his body. Can I do this a week ahead of time, too? How should I store him? Thanks!

I have done this,I frosted it and placed in freezer raped in wax paper then tin foil took it out 1 day before the cake was fine to place on cake.
