Roller Skate Party Cake

I made this roller skate cake for my son who was having a roller skating party for his 7th birthday, so there wasn't really a "theme" or character theme to go with. I wanted to try something somewhat original (for me at least), so I purchased a Wilton cake pan in the shape of a 1970's tennis shoe with sock.

I just continued the laces up the sock & added donuts (chocolate frosted hostess donuts - 2 donuts back to back for the correct height for my cake) for the wheels.

I frosted the lace area flat & used a star tip for the rest of the skate. I used a round tip for the laces & words.

Thanks Nancy & Kelly! Yes, he was very proud of his cake. He kept saying, "that is SO cool mom!". And I have to say I was VERY proud of myself too. I didn't think I could do something like that - but I think it turned out awesome! The white wall wheels were my husband's idea - and what a great idea it was.

My daughter is allergic to Red Dye #40 so I was limited on the color theme. Blue & white looked good....especially with the chocolate frosted "white wall" wheels. :-)

I do have to give credit for the general idea to someone online because I did see this when searching online & ebay. However, it was funny that the skating rink had never seen a cake like this! They too were very impressed!
