Bake a sheet cake the size that you need.
With an icing filled bag and round tip, size #5, draw
Thomas on the cake top. Cut the cake away from around the shape.
You will be using a star tip, size #16 for all of the fill in work and
a round tip, size #5 for the outline work.
Make a small amount of lemon yellow icing and fill in the yellow areas on the Thomas the Tank Engine cake. Don’t forget Thomas’s engine #1.
Now make red icing and fill in the red areas on Thomas.
Make black icing and fill in all the black areas on Thomas, not forgetting to do the pupils of his eyes.
With white icing , fill in the eyes and mouth on Thomas’s face.
Now make a light gray icing and fill in Thomas’s face and the front parts of the engine.
Also fill in the side part of the wheels.
Using a small cake spatula, cover the tops of the wheels only with a layer of white icing.
Now, make a bright blue icing. I used a combination of sky blue and royal blue gel food coloring to get the bright blue color.
The wheels on the train are done by filling in the edge rims of the wheel and the center circle of the wheel.
Using the same star tip, draw lines from the center to the edges of the wheels.
Now fill in the rest of the blue areas on the train.
Change your tip to a round tip, size #5 and do the blue outline work on the Thomas the Tank Engine. The picture shows you which lines to do.
With your gray icing and the round tip, outline the nose, cheeks, mouth and line under the mouth on Thomas’s face.
With your black icing and round tip outline the eyes on the face.
