Gold/Silver paint

Can anyone suggest how to achieve an even and shiny gold/silver paint effect on fondant? i.e. you can't see the white fondant through the paint. I have tried the mini pots of paint which look alright at first but to achieve an even finish I had to add another coat. It fizzes on the brush and dries almost instantly and goes all gritty!

I have also used the good quality gold/silver lustre dusts mixed with clear alcohol. But the same problem with it drying and going all gritty occurs.

I saw on the American Ace Of Cakes hit show a cake with the silver colour all lovely and shiny but didn't see what they used. And having no luck finding out either. Can anyone help?

That look is achieved by using the liquid gold/silver colors in an airbrush. You can get a good quality airbrush for around $100.00. I got mine on "Amazon.com". That is the only way you will be able to achieve an even, uniform coverage.
