Icing which doesn't melt in hot days
by: EMAN

You can use instead of butter (crisco shortenning) and add to it butter flavour, the butter melts at lower heat, shortenning melt point is higher and it stands more.

I never thought about the mixing the Royale Icing with the Buttercream. I have my daughters and my nieces baby's cakes to do this summer and it is extremely hot out when I do these. Last year I froze both cakes and added an extra layer to keep the cakes half froze-still cold. I am happy to report that they did not melt nor did the icing fall off either one, but they did get the little moisture droplets on them. We took a paper towel and dabbed the spots then got some things and put them around to hold a damp, not dripping wet, but very damp white towel over the cakes. This actually helped to keep the droplets from forming as much.

Icing Melt Down
by: Jane

This has happened to me on several occasions. Freezing the cake makes it worse, as the inside thaws it creates moisture and causes the icing to dilute and slid off the cake. My suggestion is to use half buttercream and half Royal Icings. The Royal icing gets very hard and doesn't melt. Mixing it with the buttercream makes it edible.

icing melting
by: Kelly

Excellent question!
I did an inside wedding last summer and it was hotter inside than out! And on the way there I had the air on in my car....and the icing fell off all 3 layers of the cake!!!!!!!!!
After I got there I had to repair it. We had fans on the cake until after the bride and groom cut it.

I don't know if freezing it would help or make it worse because I don't know if it melts faster when you take it out of the freezer or when it's room temp.
I'm interested in the answer as well!
