Heavy Metal Skull Cake

Heavy Metal Skull Cake

For this heavy metal skull birthday cake, I baked one 9 inch round cake and one 7 inch round cake. The black icing was a bit of an experiment. I used a royal icing recipe with silver balls to give it a studded leather look finish. It seems to have worked.

The red icing was very rich and strawberry flavored. The flowers were a little disastrous and I didn't get the finish I was going for but I think I got away with the finish.

My daughter was delighted.
