powder vs gel

I have gel food coloring and cannot get my red red enough. Any suggestions? Is powdered food coloring the answer?

You are better off painting the fondant instead of kneading it in.

watch how dark you color your frostings unless you get a kick out of red mouths or any other dark color LOL

I've done several things with red and it's hard getting a good deep red. But she's right, it does darken as it sits.

I've used an entire bottle of wilton red before. I did on that firetruck I did.

Wilton has a no taste red that you can use an entire bottle to do it. I use Americolor super red. It does alter the taste though.

Remember the red will get darker as it sets.

I did a cake that was a Little Einsteins Rocket. I colored my frosting almost red and then sprayed using the wilton color spray and it worked really well.
