Purple Flowers and Butterflies Cake
by Gayla
(Hawaii)
This cake was for a Quinceanera. This cake was six layers covered in fondant and decorated with purple fondant flowers and gum paste butterflies. There was 2 chocolate, 2 strawberry and 2 vanilla cakes. Decorating went well although it took soooo many hours cutting out and attaching the purple flowers.
I made the butterflies out of gum paste and used patchwork butterfly cutters and used my dehydrator to dry the butterflies it works really well.
I attached florist wire to the back of the butterflies with royal icing. I made fondant pearls for the borders of all the cakes and added a few candy pearls to the purple flowers.
This was the first cake that I used a fountain and it added a nice touch to the overall appearance of the cake, the stairs are also very easy to attach to the cake. I used artificial flowers in between the layers of the cake because that's what they had used for the table centerpieces. It all blended nicely together.
